The Momentum is Moving Forward with a New Programme design

Posted 30th August 2013 by Josh Schouten

Momentum_T_SpaceSince the launch of CrossFit Hackney we have done our best to tailor the programme design to meet the goals of our clients.  Our membership has quickly grown and we are welcoming many new members with different goals and CrossFit aspirations.  We are also aware that members are getting stronger, leaner, faster and fitter with the great combination of CrossFit Strength, CrossFit Skills, CrossFit WODs, CrossFit Capacity, and the much loved Met-Con classes.

Therefore, we have decided to add some additional changes to our programming design.

CrossFit

We will be introducing some new and improved categories to our training programme.  We are not dividing our classes and creating levels, as we believe CrossFit should be all-inclusive.  We do however want to make sure everybody is working towards his or her individual goals and the classes run smoothly.

The new categories will be:

  • CrossFit Athlete – for members who want to compete in CrossFit events and are focused on improving their strength and fitness levels.  The programming will be designed to increase strength levels and train different energy systems required to be competitive in CrossFit competitions.
  • CrossFitby default CrossFit is a General Physical Preparedness (GPP) programme that delivers great results for body composition, fitness, strength and performance.  These WODs will be a scaled version of the CrossFit Athlete programme and the strength protocol will be more focused on burning body fat and building/maintaining lean muscle mass.

  • CrossFit Enduranceis for endurance athletes who are currently in training for a running, cycling, rowing, triathlon or other endurance event.  These athletes use CrossFit as a tool to make themselves stronger, improve their speed, power and endurance while limiting the chance of injury.  As these athletes need to practice their sport, the CrossFit Endurance protocol needs to be tailored towards their training volumes.  WOD time domains are usually kept shorter and a conjugate approach to strength training is put in place (Max Effort and Dynamic Effort days).
  • CrossFit Rookie – As new members come onboard it can sometimes be a little scary stepping into a CrossFit class of well-oiled CrossFit Athletes.  One of the best things about CrossFit is the fact that it can be scaled for all levels of fitness.  This category will be for the new kids on the block.  After completing the Foundations course, new members will be able to gradually prepare themselves for to move towards the CrossFit category.

Met-con and Heavy Met-con

The met-con classes have been a great success and they are a sure fire way to burn calories and improve your fitness levels.  The fitness levels of our members have dramatically improved after attending these classes.  With such an awesome base level of fitness we have decided to increase the intensity of the met-con class by introducing a heavy met-con class on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm.

By taking met-con to the net level we will be introducing some more advanced training methodologies to keep the results moving in the right direction.  The goals will be to move heavier weights for shorter periods of times with slightly longer rests between stations.  This will continue to improve member’s body composition, strength, and overall fitness levels (read more here).

Skills Class

CrossFit is a multi-discipline sport that includes powerlifting, gymnastics and Olympic lifting… Strength is a fundamental element of CrossFit, but even the strongest athletes can be left crippled without the skills.  At Momentum Training we have a very strong focus on building strength in our athletes.  It is however time to start introducing more skill work into the programme and we believe dedicating some classes to pure skill is a great place to start (read more here).

Summary

The team at Momentum Training believes that these new additions to the programming will help you, our members, to keep making progress towards your goals.  We are not planning on separating our classes and with clever programme design we can all work together to motivate and encourage each other.  If you have any questions or feedback about these changes please let us know [email protected]
