The CrossFit Hackney Training Ethos (part 3)

Posted 30th August 2014 by Josh Schouten

The post you have all been waiting for has finally arrived.   After part 1 and part 2  this CFH training ethos part 3 post will detail the CrossFit Hackney levels.  As of September  2014 CFH will be introducing the new training ethos and the new levels. Please be aware:

  1. 1. September will be a trial period and CFH will not enforce the levels immediately.  There will be loads of questions and it’s going to take time for members to adjust and figure out their level.
  2. 2. Please note CFH will not be separating the classes.  Members of all levels will be able to take part in all CrossFit classes.

 CFH Levels Breakdown

Level 1 – Movement

Movement is the basic standard for general health and fitness. Lacking basic levels of strength, flexibility, and work capacity will limit life activities. This level will be challenging to new athletes, and some should expect to be at this level for 3 to 12 months. Quality full range of motion movements from gymnastics, weightlifting and monostructural will be tested before advancing to level 2.

Level 2 – Functional

All healthy athletes can aspire to this level of fitness. Basic movements are perfected and advanced skills are introduced. To complete level 2, this may take from 6 months to several years. Along the way, athletes develop significant levels of strength, stamina, work capacity, and speed, building on the Level 1 foundation MOVEMENTS. Once an athlete is FUNCTIONAL and is able to demonstrate the level 2 tasks they are ready for SPORT.

Level 3 – Sport

Though few people possess this level of general fitness, any healthy and motivated person can achieve it. The strength, work capacity, power and skill required to meet these goals can prepare you for any kind of physical activity with confidence. Expect to invest another 3 to 5 years of consistent effort. Progressing beyond SPORT is purely for high-level PERFORMANCE athletes.

Level 4 – Performance

This level of achievement requires long-term dedication and a passion for fitness. The skills required of Level 4 are very advanced and represent a highly skilled and well-rounded athlete. While few may attain all of the Level 4 skills, you should continually seek improvement and get closer to achieving each one.

Whats your level?

Please download the CFH Levels 1-4 spreadsheet from  DropBox Link.  In the top left hand corner of the spreadsheet enter your body weight (kg).  Then scroll through each level to determine your stength’s and weaknesses.

If you are capable of  nearly every measurment (we allow 3 exceptions) in level 1, you qualify to be a level 2.  If you are capable of nearly everything (3 exceptions allowed) in level 2, you qualify to be a level 3.

The skills that you are not capable of are your weaknesses, the areas that you need to focus on.  These are new goals, new motivations and elements that will make you a more well rounded CrossFitter. Don’t stress about the things you struggle with,  the team at CFH have a plan to help you turn your weakness into your strengths.
