Another blog post about New Year Resolutions…or is it?

Posted 29th January 2014 by Josh Schouten

At the start of the month StreTch took a look at goal setting for the New Year. Obviously, we think goals are pretty important, but there is definitely more than one way to think about them.

Next up we have our man Tom. We though we would steal the post from his personal blog Taming Thumos and and give you another option on how to lay things out.

“Firstly, Happy New Year everyone and welcome to my blog.

On the 1st of January 2014, I woke up in a muggy 4 bunk bedroom of an old council estate apartment in Berlin, to the sound of my friends alarm going off at 8am, he had a flight at 11am, ouch! The aftermath of New Year’s Eve celebrations in Berlin had claimed it’s first victim. I immediately went back to sleep as it felt like an elephant was sitting on my head and my mouth tasted like I had been chewing on Gandhi’s flip flop all night! The bright glare of the sun through the cheap curtains was unavoidable come 11am, so naturally myself and two remaining friends woke up and began reminiscing about the night before, chatting to each other bunk to bunk.

My friend asked from the bunk above “so what are your resolutions boys?”, to which i replied “I don’t make New Year Resolutions”, “I make goals everyday” my friend called out from the bunk next to me. In my mind, he hit the nail on the head with that scuttle statement. Why should it take the turn of a New Year to take action on previously set goals (usually your midterm, a goal that takes time with intention)? Since then I have seen many tweets and Facebook posts about resolutions, so instead of writing a smart arse tweet about it, I thought I’d take the opportunity to explain my reasoning.”
