Barbell Club 2017 – Phase 8 – A Benoit Sequel

Posted 31st July 2017 by Jenna Fisher

Dog in hat phase 7

After another phase of targeting specific muscle groups this month’s stimulus will change to a whole body circuit in both classes.

The method for the A exercises is another gem from Andre Benoit (see October 2016 for the first).

Andre provided much knowledge and inspiration when Josh and I spent three days with him in a small group. We learnt from his 30 years of experience as an Olympic Games athlete, academic, and pioneer with Charles Poliquin.

You will complete a rep scheme of 14, 11, 9, 14, 11, 9 for these A exercises. Aim to perform the second wave heavier than the first. As always, position and movement prioritise over load (no ugly reps please). Once you have those nailed in then make sure you work hard. The 14 reps should leave your lungs burning as well as your legs. Results don’t come from clean t-shirts free of any sweat.

The B exercises provide a small circuit to get your blood flowing from upper to lower body with minimal rest. The Cs work on core and remedial.

Next month will see the return of a method famed by either Joe Weider or Schwarzenegger. I will open this up to a vote and we will go from there.

Until then, enjoy. Train to be happy and not just because you feel you have to. Life is too short.
