Yoga Trial

Posted 16th September 2013 by Josh Schouten

Warm-up, squat, deadlift, press, pull, practice the skills, WOD/Met-Con, and grunt your way into a hot and sweat endorphin rush of workout satisfaction. Just another day at Momentum Training (MT) really!  A 60minute session flies past and the coaches at MT work hard stay onto track with the programming as squeeze as much as possible into the time domains.  So what happened to the stretching and mobility work?

MT is all about “bang for your buck’ training and unfortunately we struggle to squeeze in quality mobility work.  We all know we should spend more time improving our range of motion, rolling out and stretching. Don’t worry, we are not planning to change the quality training session, but we are going to do a trial run of YOGA classes.

We are lucky enough to have Katrina, an experienced yoga instructor from San Diego, California, offering a trail Power Vinyasa Yoga session on Sunday September 29th 13:00.  Katrina has taught in the US and Asia, and her students have included CrossFItters, MMA fighters, athletes and dancers.

The trail class will focus on preventing common CrossFit injuries by increasing flexibility, building core strength, and creating a spatial awareness of movement and the body.  Vinyasa Yoga (like CrossFit) is designed to be accessible and scaled, so even if you have yoga experience or want to improve your gymnastic ability, you will be able to push yourself in this class.

This session will be an introduction to Vinyasa Yoga and aim to teach you the basic postures. Vinyasa means ‘breath to movement’ and is a ‘flowing’ exercise that will provide a good cardiovascular work-out in addition to improving balance, strength and flexibility.  You will notice the similarities between some of the CrossFit warm-ups (gymnastic movements, stretches, and core exercises) and Vinyasa yoga.

Regular yoga practice will improve your skill set, confidence, strength and flexibility! We will also practice some inversions to improve your hand stands and balance!

In addition to the physical side, you will also learn about meditation and mind-body awareness to expand the benefits of yoga beyond the physical. You will find yourself walking out of these classes more relaxed, more content and see the benefits translate into your regular workouts.

All members are welcome to attend this trial Yoga class free of charge (will not be charged as one of your sessions).  We would like to know your feedback and if Yoga is something you would like regularly on the Momentum timetable.  Class size is limited to 20 people and you will need to box onto the class in MyBox.
