Share the Momentum in 2014?

Posted 7th January 2014 by Josh Schouten

Being part of Momentum Training, home of CrossFit Hackney, is far more than a regular gym membership

We learn to crawl before we can walk.  We learn to walk before we can run.  Most of us learn to run before we can lift weights.  Those of us that have been strength training, for longer than 6 months, often wonder why so many people are still running?  Perhaps people have little idea what to do in the weights room and never make the transition from the treadmill or basic gym classes into the strength and conditioning world for fear of embarrassment? They continue to stick with the same old cardio machines, body combat, body pump, boot camps, spin classes, zumba or swimming, and wonder why they never seem to get the results they are looking for.

If you’re already strength training and not seeing results, it may be because you’re not doing the right kind of training—that is, there may be something wrong with your protocol such that you’re not triggering adaptations.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result – Albert Einstein

Wouldn’t you rather have someone else design you training programme and then teach you how to do it? How about making training fun, new and exciting every time you enter the gym? If you want to make serious progress you must learn to follow a periodized programme that continues to challenge your body to make adaptations.  Personal training is a fantastic option, but it can be expensive and unfortunately standards in the industry vary wildly and it can be difficult to know how to gauge if your trainer knows their stuff.

At Momentum Training we are more than happy for you to ask any of our members about their training experience and the personal results they have noticed.  We have a very simple philosophy at Momentum Training:

  1. Teach the skill (how to move)
  2. Increase the volume (more quality reputations, as practice makes perfect)
  3. Increase the intensity (after you’ve learnt the skill we can challenge the movement)
  4. WORK HARD, SWEAT LOADS, AND GET RESULTS!

Our intelligent, high quality trainers have been in the industry for a long time and know how to teach you how to move correctly and effectively;  how to squat, deadlift, press, pull and perform countless functional movements that will bring you the results you are looking for. CrossFit gyms (also known as “boxes”) all over the world offer introductory courses like our foundations programme to teach the new kids on the block the basic movements. After participating in foundations classes new CrossFitters build the confidence to join the regular classes. If you’re not ready to start CrossFit we encourage you to get moving with our metabolic conditioning classes, as they are a great way to build base fitness and strength.

With an experienced coach at the helm, new members can be sure that their safety is always put first.  Every movement is scalable, and everyone can quickly see improvements as they learn new skills and start to see progress from week to week.  A good coach has a toolbox of tricks that can be used to make every workout inclusive, no matter the your level of fitness.  Scaled movements help improve strength and eventually allow you to progress to the more advanced movements.  As a coach I love seeing members do something for the first time, it brings a smile to my face and theirs.

The community of people that attend Momentum Training classes have all been the newbie at one point.  They all know the score and are more than keen to help new members adjust to the class format.  CrossFitters motivate, encourage, work hard and sweat together, which helps keep members coming back for more.  It’s not like your typical gym where members fight for space and have no respect or time for their fellow gym companions.

Everybody, no matter their level of fitness will get results from CrossFit.  Every single person who participates in our classes gives 100% effort – the fitter and strong you get, the more work you will do.  I hate to say it, but Momentum classes never get easier.  This is partly why members continue to see improvements.   Slowly you will increase the volume and intensity of your training and the side effects will make you fitter, stronger and leaner.

Why not give it a try?  For January and February 2014 we are offering some fantastic deals.
