Momentum Spotlight: Helen Dwyer

1. How long have you been training with Momentum?
Since end of May 2013 (just after the box opened)

2. What is something not many people know about you?
I was related to Belinda Carlisle (ooo baby do you know what that’s worth, ooo heaven is a place on earth…. (Questionable 80s girlie pop).

3. Whats one aspect of your life that has been improved by training with Momentum?
Well it’s not one. Fitter, leaner. After doing Crossfit for several years I was aware of the benefits and enjoyment, but I honestly think I’m fitter and my body shape is better than ever (regular Metcon is making a real difference). Plus my squat form, press-ups and core are much better than before.

4. Would you rather do Fran naked or bite the callouses off another CrossFitters hands?
Bite the callouses – I’d make them wash their hands first though. Can’t get the image of blokes kipping naked out of my head now…

5. What are three useful tips you have learn’t from Momentum?
1a. Looking ahead while doing T2B and 1b. pointing toes down while kipping, 2. ‘Snaking’ your burpees 3. Don’t turn up late (you get burpees)

6. If quizzed about the Momentum experience what would be 3-4 things you would say?
There’s always a warm and genuine welcome with big smiles. A lively community of friendly, sweaty people. The gear/rig/equipment and general environment is great – they’ve got a hair dryer in the ladies shower room and the toilet roll is good too :D. You always feel pleasingly shattered but elated after any session at Momentum. I love it.

Momentum Spotlight: Kit Peebles

1. How long have you been training with Momentum?
Since September early October I think.

2. What is something not many people know about you?
Good question, I’m not sure I’m that interesting a guy that harbors a secret talent or past glory….although I seem to have an obsession with Tinder these days…

3. Whats one aspect of your life that has been improved by training with Momentum?
Well, the obvious – I’m getting stronger and learning more skills. What I like is that every time I do a class I know I was better than the day before, and it’s those incremental successes that keep me interested.

4. Would you rather do Fran naked or bite the callouses off another CrossFitters hands?
That all depends on the situation, if there was no one around then Fran naked wouldn’t be a problem even then I think it would look weird to see what a pull up would look like without anything holding you in place….besides I don’t think Josh, Stretch or Geoff would like the sudden steep decline in membership if I went ahead with this ;)…. Can the callouses be wrapped in bacon?

5. What are three useful tips you have learn’t from Momentum?
For the guys – don’t try and go too heavy straight away – what’s more important at the start in my experience is mobility and correct technique.

Work hard and leave everything out there on the floor

Keep stretching those tight areas – some more flexibility in some areas can lead to big gains!

6. If quizzed about the Momentum experience what would be 3-4 things you would say?
I love the fact we have a bunch of trainers who are so passionate about helping people succeed! Even off the clock they go out of their way to give tips and advice.

Friendly community – doing CrossFit is only half the reason for going

You get a sense that although it’s mostly individual, we’re in it together. Coming from a previous life of team sports, CrossFit can defiantly fill that gap.

Watch out for a guy called Darren – there’s so much hot air coming out of his mouth he could fill several hot air balloons in one go..

Home of a few “strayans” – home of the second best nation in the world…
