Momentum Training at Old Street: FAQs
We’re getting a lot of questions about our new site at Old Street, so we’ve put together some FAQs to give you more detail on what to expect.
Where is it?
We are going to be located at 31A Corsham Street, which is about 1 min walk from Old Street tube station.
When does it open?
Doors open for classes on Saturday 19th May 2018. All classes on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th will be free and open to anyone to book in and try us out. The regular timetable starts on Monday 21 May 2018.
What will it cost?
Exactly the same as Hackney, although we are running a pre-opening offer of £100 unlimited membership for new members at Old Street who sign up before 21 May 2018. The only other thing to note is that we won’t be offering off peak membership at Old Street.
Can existing Hackney members use Old Street?
Hackney unlimited members will be able to use both sites as much as they like. Please email us to get this set up on your account. Please note that our Old Street unlimited pre-opening offer is only valid for Old Street, not both sites. Once we open the doors in May and start selling regular unlimited memberships at Old Street, all unlimited members (whether based at Hackney or Old Street) will be able to use both sites. You need to select a “home” site – the one you’re likely to use the most – and purchase your membership there, then we’ll set you up access to the other site.
We’re also giving all our other regular Hackney members 3 free sessions at Old Street to use within 3 months – drop us a line to get these added to your account.
Will you be offering the same class types at Old Street and Hackney?
We’ll be offering all the same class types at Old Street as we offer at Hackney, with the exceptions of Heavy Met Con, Oly Lifting classes and Yoga initially. As the membership increases and demand builds at Old Street, we’ll add these in. When we open the doors at Old Street in May, we’re going to be offering more CrossFit trial classes (like the one on Saturday mornings at Hackney) to reflect the fact that we expect to have new members who aren’t familiar with CrossFit. All CrossFit trial classes are open to everyone, regardless of experience or whether they’ve done Foundations.
What about Foundations?
From mid May, we will simplify our Foundations course to 2 x 2 hour sessions for £100. The course will be exactly the same at both sites, but on different days. If you have never done CrossFit before you will need to do this course before you can book into CrossFit classes.
What will the timetable at Old Street look like?
It’s live in our Old Street membership system (note it looks blank if you open it at a date before 19th May) or you can see a sample week here: OldStTimetable. We’ll be starting with a slightly reduced timetable which will increase over the summer.
Will the same coaches be working at both sites?
Yep!
What’s the new Old Street site like?
It’s smaller than Hackney, but very nice (as if we’d have it any other way). The gym has natural light and air-con/heating so it should be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than our existing Arch. We also have the pleasure of the uber cool team from LNDR sportswear working on the Mezzanine floor above us. The entrance area is a largish double height space with a small shop to stock up on your supplements and pre workout tipples. It has a seating area with storage as well as wire cages for bags and shoes and small secure lockers for valuables. There are loos and a shower/changing room. We also have a large bike rack directly outside the front door.
How is it configured for training/what equipment will it have?
It’s 2600sqft of quality training space (Hackney is around 4,000sqft – for comparison). We are having a quality rubber floor laid as well as a dedicated sled track. There are two distinct ceiling height areas – one being pretty average and the other being double height. We have planned it out carefully so you have as much quality space to train in as possible as well as allowing for storage.
As at Hackney, Old Street has good and effective solid equipment including quality barbells, a good amount of weight plates, a selection of kettle bells, a custom built rig with 6 squat racks, wall balls, boxes, sleds, rowers and assault bikes and of course a bloody great, extremely amusing and experienced coaching team who know what they’re doing.
Is anything else going to change?
Everything at Hackney will stay the same (other than Foundations – as noted above). There’ll be some changes to our website in the next couple of days to reflect the new site. Other than that, nope, everything will remain as awesome as ever! Awesomer, in fact.
