Momentum x Coronavirus

Posted 9th March 2020 by Josh Schouten

At Momentum Training, the health and safety of our members and staff are the number one priority. We ARE OPEN and trading as normal. Here’s a little bit about what we are doing in the gym to keep us as safe as possible, please note this requires some input from you, the members.

We are aware of the growing concerns around coronavirus (Covid-19) and the potential health risks this may have on us personally and us a community. This week you will notice some changes around the gym with hand sanitiser and Anti-Bacterial Spray (Dettol) around the gym. Believe it or not, these are had to come by so it might take some time to get properly stocked although be assured that we are doing what we can to get our hands on some.

Hands

Whilst the Government has provided public information and guidelines that we are closely following, ie. reminding members that regular, thorough handwashing with soap and water throughout your visit is of utmost importance. We advise 20 seconds or more of contact with soap as per government advice.

Equipment

We have increased availability of disinfectant (Dettol) cleaning products on the gym floor. We ask that you help us and your fellow members by using these products to wipe down all equipment after you have used it. We realise that this isn’t always going to be possible, therefore we are going to increase the cleaning of the gym to ensure that we keep the gym as clean and bacteria-free as possible.

We will be asking our instructors to ensure there is enough time at the end of sessions to clean down bars and dumbbells. We may have to finish classes a few minutes earlier to make sure this happens but hope that you understand the reasons why we may have to do this.

Momentum will continue to be vigilant and are focused on cleaning all items that are commonly touched, ie. door handles, toilet flushes etc. Again, we would ask for your support and co-operation for any inconvenience this may cause.

We realise that the vast majority of our members commonly travel for work and leisure. If this is you, we ask that you please act responsibly when returning to the gym. If you have any of the symptoms listed below please act appropriately and DO NOT attend the gym until you have sought proper medical advice.

The symptoms of coronavirus are:

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness. The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.
It’s very unlikely to be coronavirus if:

  • you have not been in close contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus
  • you have not been to a country or area with a high risk of coronavirus in the last 14 days – see our coronavirus advice for travellers

If you think you might have coronavirus, use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do.

In this time, Momentum would ask:

– Please do not attend classes if you are unwell
– Keep your hands clean, wash regularly and thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds with soap and water
–  Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch all coughs and sneezes and then bin the tissue – then wash your hands with soap and water, or use a sanitiser
– Please use the cleaning sprays to wipe down equipment after use
We ask anyone who is concerned that they may have encountered the virus to follow the Government advice and self-isolate in the first instance.
