What’s what @ Momentum Training – How to find your ideal class

Posted 4th January 2021 by Josh Schouten

Welcome to Momentum Training,

As some of you are new to us we thought we would skip the awkward part and introduce ourselves first. As we’re not your typical leisure facility we thought it might be best if we let you know what is the main difference between our classes and what might suit you and your fitness thirst.

Metcon: Low load, low skill, high capacity. General fitness, with DBs, KBs, dead-balls, ropes and mono-structural. A different workout every class. Suitable for beginners. A great place to get your body moving, heart pumping. For those looking to lower your resting heart rate, blood pressure and get a general base this is the class for you.

Spin: Essentially, MetCon on wheels. For those looking for a solid spin class with great tunes and instructors to follow this would be one of the best spin classes in London. Don’t let us tell you about it, come and see for yourself. For those looking to lower your resting heart rate, blood pressure and get a general base this is the class for you.

StrongCon: Medium load, medium skill, medium to high capacity. Body composition, with barbells, DBs, KBs, and mono-structural. A three-month program cycle. Working in teams of 2 to 3 people.

Barbell Club*: For those looking to solely improve on technique, understand programming and gain strength at a fast rate. Medium to high load, medium skill, low capacity. Strength and hypertrophy work, with barbells, DBs, cables and (appropriate useful) machines. No aerobic (‘cardio’) element. A four – six-month program cycles. Lots of chat and great bants. Great place to find a BFF gym buddy.

Weightlifting (Olympic lifts)*: Medium to high load, high skill, low capacity. Snatch, clean and jerk, and squat. Get serious (with smiles) to progress in these lifts. Monthly program cycle. Feel part of a tight-knit team.

Heavy Metal Club*: High load, high skill, high capacity. Weightlifting, powerlifting, and conditioning for the advanced member. Program cycle determined by coach and class agreement on goals. Love of metal music essential.

Gymnastics: High strength, high skill, low to high capacity. Bodyweight movements: muscle-ups, pull-ups, handstand push-ups, handstand walks, toes-to-bar. Monthly program cycle. Strength focus for beginners. Capacity for advanced. The same friendly faces week after week.

CrossFit*: All of the above are put together into one. CrossFit will dip and dive in and out of a strength, strength endurance to cardiovascular fitness. We will follow a set program for 2-4 weeks before we shift our focus and move on. Long term results are guaranteed if you are consistent and trust the process.  Beginner to advanced – everyone welcome. Community is key.

Mobility: Improve your performance through suppleness and range of movement.

Foundations: Learn the correct technique for the classes of your choice. Compulsory for CrossFit, Weightlifting and Heavy Metal Club. Optional for everything else. Shoot us an email: [email protected]  or read more here.

Personal Training: Build your confidence to start classes or progress from these to achieve an elusive goal. Email us here.

Physio and Sports massage: Tight? Achy? Injured? This is the place to go.

You’ll note that the classes marked with the * will require completion of the foundations prior to booking these. If you have any questions about what might be the best way forward, please feel free to grab a coach or contact Geoff or Josh.

We look forward to seeing you in the classes soon!
